Tim grew up in Dunedin, New Zealand. He attended John McGlashan Secondary College, undertook his year 12 at Boca Raton Community High School in Florida, studied at University of Otago without graduating, travelled overseas for 5 years, then moved to Australia in 1990 to study wine. He subsequently worked in the wine industry until 2007, leaving to start up his own digital marketing business, 2 Sticks Digital Marketing.

Tim enjoys films with ambiguous endings, Pinot Noir, Norman Mailer, the Australian Financial Review, Tanqueray gin, swearing in moderation, deep powder skiing, HBO, and authentic, hot curries.
